Project Description

GSA designed, installed, and tested vadose zone monitoring wells to characterize a fine-grained unit present in the shallow subsurface at a proposed 45,000 acre feet per year groundwater recharge facility. Air and water piezometers were installed at various depths above, below, and within the fine-grained unit. Medium and large scale in-situ hydraulic conductivity testing were conducted in the vadose zone wells. Subsurface lithology and measured hydraulic conductivities were used to provide an integrated estimate of the hydraulic properties of the fine-grained unit and potential effects on the success of the proposed recharge facility.
