Pilot Project Monitoring and Site Feasibility Evaluation
Location
Antelope Valley, California, USA
Client
Western Development and Storage, LLC
Project Description
A site investigation and pilot project monitoring system were designed to evaluate subsurface lithology and hydraulic conductivities at various scales and to monitor the fate and transport of biological and chemical constituents associated with the recharge water. Monitoring wells were equipped with advanced tensiometers, suction lysimeters, and nested water and air piezometers at various depths. During the pilot project phase the wells were used to monitor the advance of the pilot project wetting front and monitor changes in subsurface water quality. These data were then used to provide an integrated assessment of the pilot project and provide a site-wide assessment of project feasibility.
Project Highlights
- Proposed 100,000 acre-ft/yr groundwater recharge site
- Design of pilot project vadose zone and groundwater monitoring system
- In-situ hydraulic conductivity testing
- Assessment of water quality impacts
- Integration of pilot project data to provide an assessment of site-wide project feasibility
