Project Description
In conjunction with the University of British Columbia, GSA designed and supervised the installation of in-situ monitoring vadose zone monitoring wells to assess solution and air flow dynamics in an active waste rock facility. Drilling and coring with sonic methods was used to determine waste rock physical and geochemical properties. GSA designed, constructed and calibrated downhole instruments to monitor temperature, oxygen content, air and solution pressure sensors. In addition, deep suction lysimeters were installed for in-situ solution sampling. Monitoring is ongoing.
Project Highlights
- Design and installation of in-situ monitoring system to assess solution and air flow
- Waste rock drilling and core sampling
- Field and laboratory characterization of waste rock physical and hydraulic properties
