Hydrogeologic Characterization of an Active Heap Leach Facility
Location
Chile
Client
Minera Cerro Colorado
Project Description
GSA conducted an extensive field and laboratory characterization program to determine physical and hydrologic properties of actively-leached heaps and the effects of settling due to seismic activity. Field analyses consisted of cone penetrometer and sand-cone density surveys to determine compaction, and tension infiltrometer and air permeameter testing to determine solution and air flow characteristics. Laboratory characterization included hydraulic conductivity and moisture retention characteristics at variable bulk densities of heap-leach material. These finding were used to predict future copper recovery and provide support for an insurance settlement.
Project Highlights
- Field and laboratory hydraulic property characterization
